A Blast from the Past!

This is a picture I received from a new blogging friend I just "met" this week! I found Valerie from a comment she left on someone else's blog...you know how it happens. I left her a comment, she left me a comment. She sent me an e-mail, I sent her one back. She sent me this picture!

This is a blast from Dirk's and my past. We used to live here, on the top floor, in Shawnee, Oklahoma. It was called His House. It was a coffee house that Dirk and I ran clear back (before most of you were born!) in 1976-1977. We had bands and singing groups come in on the weekends and served coffee and soft drinks. Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) was new on the scene. We had upstarts like Gentle Faith, Honeytree, Kelly Willard, and a comic duo, Tom and Tuffy (TNT). It was a happening place and people came from all over. On Monday nights, we had Bible study. We had lunch for the highschoolers on Wednesdays. And Thursday nights was a night of special speakers on hot issues of that time. We were kids, it was ministry, and we loved it.

Dirk was finishing up at OBU, I worked at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. The funding for our salary and the running of His House came from many churches in Shawnee.

It was a fun and growing time in our life-before-children. I'd say it was even preparation! Hey, seven kids wasn't much at all after that experience!

What might God be preparing you for now that will affect your life in thirty years? It will come sooner than you think!

How exciting to see this on your blog today!
I just love this house. I know you & your husband have many memories there.
It blessed me today to hear stories of what all went on there back in the mid 70's when I was in high school.
Have a blessed day and hopefully we won't get quite the snow they're forcasting. (isn't it crazy?...yesterday sunshine and I drove around town with my sun roof open!)

How fun! I can't imagine what God has in store for us. But for some reason lately I have been thinking about fun things to do with GRANDKIDS! And I have a five-year-old! I just think it is going to be fun.

Forgot to say, David and I both graduated from OBU! Those were good times. I'd love to see where this house was.

I was in kindergarten when you lived there :)

I see so much how my past has prepared me for my future. I am so in awe of our God.

The house is at 632 N. Broadway, north of downtown, west side of the street.

One of my daughters just called after reading my blog. She said, "Mom, I never knew this about you and dad. You were cool!" I laughted and asked her, "Yeah, what happened?" LOL

Jess, you're right. We have a LOT more kids than seven....I think this was one of God's ways of preparing us to love MANY!

Deleise--grandkids are the BEST! It's a double measure of love--your kids' kids! Dirk knew he wanted to be "Grandpa" when he was about 30 (and we were still having kids!) He IS and he loves it!

Thanks again, Valerie for stopping to take the pic---you're AWESOME!

Thanks to the rest of you for going down memory lane with us today...just know---30 years FLIES by! Enjoy each day!

Ooh! This just strikes a chord with my ever-emerging entrepreneurial spirit! I would LOVE to do something like that. FUN! You guys ARE cool! :)

That's about the same time my mom and dad met and started running a fireworks stand! LOL.

I will be 55 in 30 years. I can't even imagine! I've already learned so much in the last YEAR!
