One of the favorite things we did on our vacation was READ! I’m talking read without interruptions!! I know…a lot of you can’t even imagine. But, Dirk read two books and I got in three.
Dirk read Volunteer Revolution by Bill Hybels and Journey of Desire by John Eldredge. I read one of Angela Hunt’s novels, You Were Made for Love by Phillip Carlson, and a great novel Peace Like a River by Leif Enger.
(This is me reading Peace Like a River while sitting in the ocean. I thought that was funny.)
I’ll be sharing more from You Were Made for Love soon. And I’m going to ask Dirk to tell us about Volunteer Revolution. (This book really got him pumped—and he will study Journey of Desire for some time.)
But if you like to read, I highly recommend Peace Like a River, by Leif Enger. This is a novel written by a young man who captured me with his unique writing style. Written in first person, the story is narrated by an 11-year old boy during the early 1960’s in Minnesota. It’s the story of a family’s faith in God as a provider. It’s amazing! I’m going to see if my boys will read it.
Have you read any of these books? Have any good ones to recommend?

I have read volunteer revolution. that is the best type of reading, no pressure, no stress...
ReplyDeleteI've read Journey of Desire and Volunteer Revolution is on my list after I finish the two I'm reading right now. John Eldridge is an amazing writer, so I would recommend any of his books. Right now I'm reading In the Grip of Grace by Max Lucado and just started Going All the Way by Craig.

You guys did an awesome job of making us love to read. It is one of the things I enjoy for leisure time as well. Journey of Desire tops my list as one of the most life changing books. Just started You Were Made for Love & loving it so far!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the book suggestions Mandy and Cindy.
ReplyDeleteNatalie - I'm a huge reader too!
Ali and Erin- I'm glad you like to read. We spent plenty of time at the library, huh!
I think I am addicted to reading. I love to read anything Francine Rivers for fiction. I got one of her books for Christmas. When I am finished with the collection of writings from C.S. Lewis I am reading I will start on it. Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers and Hinds Feet on High Places by Hannah Hurnard are my favorite non-fiction. I have so many non-fiction favorites. Anything C.S. Lewis...he was brilliant. I think Mere Christianity was the best book ever written! Too many to pick from!
ReplyDeleteShanna - my girls and I have all read all things Francine Rivers. Anna is a fanatic about the Mark of the Lion series.
ReplyDeleteHinds Feet is great! I should read that again.
And I agree--CS Lewis is brilliant.
I've read some recently by Corrie Ten Boom who I've loved since I was a young girl. I'll be sharing about that sometime.
