Final Thoughts (for now) on Mary

I'm B-aaaack

Our Christmas was nice, as usual. We have a wonderful, loving family. We are very blessed! We did miss Jon, Erin’s husband who is in Iraq.

Dirk got me Photoshop Elements 6. Anyone have any tips to share?

Our three sons, and Dirk and I all served as greeters, cart drivers, and ushers for each one of the nine Lifechurch experiences this weekend! Whew! (but lots of fun). We got to see some people we haven’t seen in a long time, since they attend different services than we do. It was so nice to see them and hug them. It reminded me of what heaven may be like!

We are taking care of our granddaughters, Lily (3) and Sadie (1), while their parents are on a short get-away. Think I’ll be worn out by Saturday?

Think about it. Mary was a home educator! I’m sure she was home educated herself. And guess what? It didn’t ruin her! She still carried out the calling on her life.

As one of the main influences in Jesus’ life, Mary fed her willing spirit, her ears to hear her Father, and many other qualities into her first son’s life.

And just think about how much she gained from having Jesus as a son! Don’t you know he taught her things she had never even thought of before He came into her life?

Just last week, one of my children suggested maybe I was being a little judgmental about something. She was right, and I apologized. I remember another occasion when Erin, at six-years-old, asked me why I was watching soap operas. “Mom, is that good?” Hmmm….No! I had gotten into a bad habit during college and was still, now as a mom, leaving the TV on during the day, badly influencing my 6 year old daughter. The TV went off for good, for soap operas.

How much are we allowing our children to teach us? You see, I think it’s a two-way street. I know I’ve learned many things from my children. I’ll share about more of those sometime.

Besides long-suffering ;-), What are your kids teaching you?

  1. I don't quite have kids to teach me yet, but I can only hope I'm teaching my parents something. The younger people I am around do tend to teach me something. My mid-high girls remind me to be passionate about my God and the paths he has set before me. Someday, though I plan to learn a lot from my kids!

  2. I know that I learn a lot from my kids. They do not get stressed out like I do. :) One thing that I need to learn is to accept change. Being at LifeChurch comes with changes sometimes. I need to trust that God is in control. It's so much harder when it affects those that you are close to. I know that I need to let go and trust God in everything. My family does so much better with this than I do.

  3. Oh sister, I learn something from these boys daily! I think that is what makes parenthood awesome! I also think that when we let our children know that they can help us, it will instill a love and respect in them FOR US.

  4. My mom taught me that parents can admit when they're wrong...and can apologize, too. So, although my daughter is only six years old, I have apologized many times...for overreacting, jumping to conclusions, saying "no" when I should have given it more thought, etc.

I'm glad you had a great Christmas! I can't believe you guys worked ALL the experiences! We were only there for four.

  5. Hi Robin! welcome back! us too - we got home from Missouri last night! Glad to have my own bed back...

what do my kids teach me? I posted this on swerve today:
I love how my children ask God before they ask me or before they look for a lost object or before they would consider allowing me to call the doctor…I love their first response - to call on God!
    - and someday, when I grow up, I want to have faith like a child like them!

  6. Hey Robin,
I just found your blog recently through Anna's. I have been doing photography for a while now and I have Elements 5. I will tell you there is one book you need to learn everything you want to know and one only. Its The photoshop elements 6 book for digital photographers. Its by Scott Kelby. Its great, I got mine off amazon, but B & N sometimes has it.
Just thought I'd share. Have fun!!

  9. Hi Robin.

I am a homeschooling mom of 4 children ranging in age from 15 down to 3.

We have been homeschooling for 3 years now. I have learned so much working day in and day out with these precious ones.

We have found out what works and what doesn't by working it out together day by day. I still have so much improvement to go. I find homeschooling very challenging and sometimes I get quite isolated . When the going gets tough and there are lessons and growth that need to happen sometimes it gets so tempting to put them in the school system. However when we overcome a problem and are able to work together and do better then we were able to in the past it all seems worth it. When I see how close we are it is all worth it too. Some days it is harder to see that though.

I look forward to hearing and reading some other homeschooling families so I do not feel so all alone.

I really like your blog on Bringing in the Boundaries. That is something I have improved on and am still working on.

Thanks so much for sharing your experiences.
