Okie Dokie

Not wanting Theresa to arrive in Oklahoma without proper understanding and pronunciation of the language, I’ve come up with just a few words and phrases that might help her out.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Gonna, wanna, hafta, woulda, coulda, shoulda, - It’s just easier to shorten two words into one, don’tcha know?

fixin’ (I’m fixin’ to head to town. Ya wanna go with me?”) Sorry, Theresa….you’ll probably hear this one from me!

didja --“Didja see that mighty fine F-350 doolie (dually)? I hafta get me one of them!”

your-all’s-- (both or all of yours) “Did you drive your-all’s car out here?”

jawl -- “Did jawl drive your car out here, too?”

samwich-- “I’ll have one of those chopped beef samwiches, thankya".

Gichew--- “Can I gichew something to drink?”

Anyways….cain’t wait ‘til you git here, Theresa. We’ll be shore to have a good tawk and sump’n teet if’n yore not too tarred. ;)

OK – I’m sure the rest of you have some great Okie words and phrases to share with Theresa. Help out a California kid!

"Ionno" as in "Ionno who got these blocks out butchy'all better pick um up."

I have a whole family full of Okies and growing up we always had 'TATERS'(sometimes mashed, but usually fried) for 'SUPPER'....unless Nanny was too 'TARRED' which is the same as being 'Plum wore out'. :)

Alla y'all and fixin' to are by far my most used Okie phrases though.

hahahaha, this was hilarious.

While I miss a lot of things, I'm not sure that I miss listening to this. ;) (yep, I like to pretend that I don't sound like this...don't worry, I am completely 'aware' that I do.)

This is so very funny Robin!
And Theresa, this is the undisputed Okie gospel. We are forced to class it up on our blogs because Blogger spell check doesn't speak Okie.

1. Mindago - as in "where'd I put my keys? I haddem just a mindago."

2. Momenims - as in "We're going teet at momenims for dinner."

This is too funny. I am at work. I have to share these with Hope so she will be able to understand me when I get back. Ryan says that I have to teach you all to say awesome and dude. I am sure you already have that figured out.
